Casa Narcisa
The rehabilitation and renovation of Casa Narcisa invites us to connect with a bygone era.
This property, located in the heart of La Garriga, is named after Narcisa Freixas, a forgotten Catalan artist and composer from the 19th century.
Freixas left an indelible mark on the world of music and art, and her spirit is reflected in every corner of this modernist-style home. The house, which captures the essence of its time and the artistic vision of its owner, is listed in the Inventory of Architectural Heritage of Catalonia.
In that era, La Garriga was a popular summer retreat for the Catalan bourgeoisie, and it still boasts many modernist buildings today. Thus, the rehabilitation of Casa Narcisa is more than an architectural restoration—it is an act of cultural preservation. We understand that historic buildings are silent narrators of past stories, lived moments, and dreamed aspirations. Preserving these monuments is essential to keeping collective memory alive.
Our approach to the rehabilitation of Casa Narcisa has been rooted in profound respect for its history and patrimonial value. Every decision has been made with the intention of honoring its past while preserving its legacy for future generations. Maintaining the integrity of the original modernist design, with its ornamental details and elegant simplicity, has been a top priority.
The rehabilitation, restoration, and renovation of the building are comprehensive. This includes structural consolidation, replacing floor slabs, reconstructing the upper-floor staircase with the “Catalan vault” technique, restoring the tiled roof, and reinstating mosaics, wainscoting, and modernist cornices, which were previously dismantled and carefully classified.
In terms of energy efficiency and sustainability, the building’s thermal insulation has been improved, and it has been equipped with new, modern installations, including solar energy systems.
Special mention must be made of the complete restoration of the main façade, which involved recovering sgraffito, carpentry, and other ornamental elements based on historical documentation.
Casa Narcisa, with its rich history, exemplifies how the past can enrich our present and future. It is not merely a home; it is a symbol of the connection between past and present, an architectural work of art that will continue to inspire future generations.
